This afternoon, His Excellency Governor FCPA Fernandes Barasa reiterated the Western region’s firm support for President William Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza administration. Speaking during an interdenominational church service at Friends Comprehensive School Kivaywa in Lugari Constituency, where he hosted the Head of State, Governor Barasa said the region is already experiencing the fruits of political collaboration and remains committed to working with the national government to accelerate development.
The Governor lauded the President’s commitment to key development projects in Kakamega County, which reflect the strength of this growing partnership. These include the completion of Kakamega Level 6 Hospital, set to receive KSh 500 million from the National Government and KSh 300 million from the County; the upgrade of Bukhungu Stadium with KSh 700 million from the County and additional national support; and the KSh 5.8 billion gold refinery plant being established in Ikolomani Sub-county, roads, among other areas of mutual interest.
Governor Barasa further applauded President Ruto for his bold and principled stand on the controversial death of Albert Ojwang, who allegedly died while in police custody at the Nairobi Central Police Station. He urged the relevant authorities to conduct a comprehensive and transparent investigation, stressing that Kenyans are watching and justice must prevail. “The law must take its rightful course,” he said, adding that such incidents must not be normalized or swept under the carpet.
Leaders backing the region’s unity included National Assembly Speaker Rt. Hon. Dr. Moses Wetang’ula, Governors Kenneth Lusaka and Johnson Sakaja, Deputy Governor Hon. Ayub Savula, several Members of Parliament, and other dignitaries.
